What is Open Transport?

Open auto transport is the most common type of car shipping service. It’s easy to arrange, convenient, and excellent value for money. A car shipping company transports your car, together with other vehicles, using open trailer transport. 

Car transport is typically carried out using large haulers that come in two types: enclosed and open. Enclosed carriers provide maximum security by covering the vehicle on all sides, but they come at a cost, typically 40% more than open transport.

On the other hand, open carriers are more affordable and widely accessible, allowing for quicker vehicle pickup and a higher capacity, usually between 8 and 10 vehicles or more at once. The ability to ship multiple cars at the same time helps reduce costs, which we pass on to customers. For example, transporting a standard sedan from Buffalo, New York, to Los Angeles, California (2,500 miles) in an enclosed container could cost around $1,400, while using open transport would only be $1,000.

Additionally, our open carriers offer up to $100k in cargo insurance. While open transport is not ideal for high-end luxury or classic cars worth millions, it’s perfect for regular and some expensive vehicles, RVs, motor homes, corporate fleets, dealership cars, motorcycles, boats, and even heavy equipment like construction or farming machinery.
